Sifu Gary Todd

Gary Todd began his Martial Arts Training in 1974 at the age of 14 studying the Northern style of My Jhong Law Horn from Sifu Johnnie “Kwong Ming” Lee who had just moved to Louisiana from Hong Kong. Gary’s early years of training were often supplemented by Sifu Alexander Kwok who regularly visited the Louisiana School from his home in Canada. In 1977 Gary became the first Black Belt promoted in the United States by Sifu Lee in 1977. During the late 1970’s thru the mid 1980’s Gary competed and won many tournament competitions and was briefly a nationally rated in forms/kata competition in the early 1980’s.
In 1995 Gary’s regular work opened a West Coast facility in California. While there, Gary saw the name Master Gini Lau in a Yellow Pages ad for a Gung Fu School. He remembered that name as the one who had beaten Sifu Alexander Kwok at the Long Beach International Tournament, while Sifu Kwok was the number 1 rated forms competitor in the United States.
Gary went to Master Lau’s school and soon began study with his Sifu, Master Gini Lau 1995. He quickly knew she would be his lifelong teacher. There were some similarities in the styles and Gary later learned that his SiGung Yip yeh Ting from My Jhong Law Horn and SiGung Lau Fat Mang of Eagle Claw fame were friends in China and Hong Kong. Gary received his teaching certificate aka “Black Belt” from Master Lau in 2002. In 2004, Gary achieved another lifelong dream and went to China with his Sifu Master Lau for the 1st International Traditional Wushu Tournament. While there he won 2 Silver medals in forms competition.
Sifu Todd and his Master – Sifu Gini Lau continue a close relationship of practice and regular visits to this day.
